I remember watching the Sinister movies a long time ago, and even today, I recall how amazing both of the movies were. There are only a few movies that have ever managed to stress me out, and both of the Sinister movies are at the top of the list.
In fact, even today, I find myself streaming those movies again and again whenever I’m looking for a good scare.
I put my Xfinity Internet to good use and stream the movies back-to-back, without any buffering issues. I suggest you look into Xfinity Internet plans so that you can stream the movies at the highest quality with no lag, so you can see what you’ve been missing out on all these years.
Here are some reasons why both of the Sinister movies will always be among my favorite horror movies of all time.
Ethan Hawke Takes the Reins
Ethan Hawke is definitely one of my favorite actors because of his versatility. Not only was he good in Sinister, but he was great in The Black Phone as well, which was yet another thriller, but Ethan was the antagonist in that one.
In the first part, Ethan plays the role of an author named Ellison whose success knew no bounds at one point because of his true-crime novels, but after a long period of failure, he moves into a house with his family where a recent string of murders occurred. He intends to write a book about it, without telling his family.
The second part is a direct continuation of the first. However, it doesn’t have Ellison in it (due to reasons I can’t disclose as it is a spoiler), but that doesn’t mean the second part wasn’t good. Both of the movies are unique in their own way.
You’ve Never Seen a Story Like This Before
The reason why I loved Sinister so much was because it has a unique storyline, with a pattern in the string of murders and why they were happening in the first place. It was great to see all the events gradually unfold and how Ellison works tirelessly to figure out why the murders were happening.
Eventually, there is a supernatural entity that is responsible for all the events, and the intriguing part of the plot is how the entity murders its victims. You’ll have to watch the movies to understand how the whole ordeal works.
Not to Forget, Deputy So & So
Yeah, that’s right, that was the name of the character in not just the first part, but even the second!
Deputy So & So was the Sheriff’s deputy, but it is actually he who figures out what the whole case was, and he tries his absolute best to save Ellison and his family.
In the second part, the deputy finds another family going through the same turmoil, and since he has figured out the pattern up until this point, he does everything in his power to save the other family too. I would say that the deputy’s determination had a lot to contribute, and made both of the movies amazing in their own ways.
The Horrifying ‘Super 8’ Films in the Attic
Though this is a major plot point, Ellison finds a box of Super 8 films along with a projector in his attic, and upon playing those films, he realizes that they were all a string of murders, and the person making the videos was responsible for all the murders.
He then begins watching all of those gruesome films to figure out what was going on. I’ll tell you this though: when I say gruesome, I really mean GRUESOME.
All of the films were so horribly unsettling that even I had a hard time trying to process them for the first time. There was something about the attention to detail that gave me nightmares for days!
One of the many major things that make Sinister iconic are the Super 8 tapes that give the movie its significance.
There’s No Fluff in the Movie
Some horror movies have a lot of fluff content in them, which turns the movie into a drag. However, that wasn’t the case in either of the Sinister movies, as they were pretty straightforward.
In fact, the movies keep you captivated throughout, and you don’t feel like leaving the movie in between for anything else at all.
These are some of the things that I believe make both of the Sinister movies brilliant. However, this movie isn’t for the faint-hearted as there is some degree of gore and a lot of unsettling events, so make sure you have the heart to watch it before you proceed!
